Alright, here’s one possibility to do a live a breakcore/idm set. Open three instances of Renoise. Use one instance for all the drum jamming assign it to the 8x8 grid of some monome type controller. Use the other two instances for mixing two different songs and assign them to faders and knobs . Seriously, don’t worry about crashing, Renoise is lightweight on the CPU, so it could in fact be possible to have 5-10 instances of this application going at once. Try to avoid using too many buffer hungry VST synths, and stick to the light weight ones. Better yet, render your synths into samples for your live show before playing out.
Back in the late 1990’s there were a variety of players that could play tracker files, and with any luck these will make a comeback. If these players could merely pre-load songs in batches, and still allow one to map midi song information, then DJ’ing tracker files will be a hell of a lot easier.
